Tuna return to san hose del cabo bajos

Source: mexico fishing news

SAN JOSE DEL CABO, MEXICO: Eric Brictson of Gordo Banks Pangas reported improved yellowfin tuna fishing on San Jose del Cabo's Gordo Banks as 48 combined La Playita fleet pangas turned in a catch last week of: 105 yellowfin tuna, 112 dorado, 66 sierra, 12 striped marlin, 18 pompano, 10 cabrilla, 36 pargo, 11 amberjack, 45 bonito, and 1 wahoo. San Jose del Cabo fishing picked up as local water temperatures warmed slightly to 72 to 75 degrees and some striped marlin also moved around the tip of Mexico's Baja peninsula into the Sea of Cortez.

"The Gordo Banks once again came to life and anglers found great action on yellowfin tuna on both the inner and outer banks," Brictson said. "Striped marlin fishing has now spread out, with the marlin being found from the Pacific Ocean into the Sea of Cortez."

Brictson also noted that La Playita panguero Capt. Tony Miranda won his second panga and motor of the season with a 141-pound tuna that took first place in the Cabo San Lucas event of the Baja California Sur Governor's Cup fishing tournament series. Miranda also won a panga in the Governor's Cup event held at La Playita last month. IMPROVED TUNA FISHING AND ANOTHER WIN FOR TONY MIRANDA.

SAN JOSE DEL CABO, MEXICO: Paul Roos of San Jose del Cabo and his fishing partner Rick Bennett fished at the Inner Gordo Bank on their super panga Sumarlin with Capt. Miguel Banaga on Friday for a catch of: easy black skipjack chunked for bait, 1 small dorado, 1 huachinango of 8 pounds, and 2 yellowfin tuna of about 35 pounds. "Miguel butterflied the huachinango and his family and I ate red snapper stuffed with shrimp at his condo that night," Roos said. Roos also noted that beach development for the new Puerto Los Cabos marina at La Playita was cutting off access and making conditions more crowded for the traditional pangas launching over the beach there. "Parking is very limited unless you have a 4x4," Roos said. "You may wish you had come to the beach via taxi or were dropped off by a friend." FISHING AT THE INNER GORDO BANK AND CONSTRUCTION AT LA PLAYITA BEACH.

SAN JOSE DEL CABO, MEXICO: Bob Lewis of San Jose del Cabo fished out of La Playita beach on Thursday for a catch of 3 yellowfin tuna of 18 to about 40 pounds, and 1 dorado of over 20 pounds. "This week has been calm," Lewis said. "That allowed the fleet to get out and tuna counts are way up." Lewis also noted that he is booking pangas and cruiser fishing trips at San Jose del Cabo. "If anyone wants to go I can plug them in," Lewis said. "There are some new generation super pangas here that are really nice, with 2 bait tanks, live bait tubes, and 225-horse Hondas."

Baja Fishing News

Source: mexfish

Every year, Baja fishing waters become increasingly accessible as more and more people drive south on the Mexican peninsula's 1,070-mile Transpeninsular Highway or fly down to the international airports at Loreto, La Paz, and Los Cabos.

And every year, it seems, a little more of the "old Baja flavor" is lost as hotels, condos, restaurants and other developments seem to be going up everywhere.

But that is largely an illusion. If you fly over Baja in an airplane, or if you cruise down either the Pacific or Sea of Cortez coast, you see that 95 percent of the development is concentrated on 5 percent of the land. Yes, the popular sportfishing tourist centers are beehives of activity, but in between, Baja is still the wild and woolly land of wonderment that keeps "old-timers" coming back decade after decade.

This old Baja fishing wonderland of harshest beauty and life-changing adventure is just as big and wonderful as always.

Nevertheless, it must be admitted that today, relatively few Baja anglers make the adventurous drive down Mex 1, compared to the ever-growing masses that choose to fly in airliners to Loreto, La Paz, or Los Cabos international airports. In the glitzy Los Cabos corridor especially, it has become something of a singles bar conversation starter to tell someone that you just drove down from Tijuana. "Whaaat? You mean you can drive here?" she asks, and you're off and running.

Travel South of San Diego
http://www.mexadventure.com

Just 70 miles south of the San Diego / Tijuana border crossing, Ensenada is a great destination for the quick weekend getaway or the perfect place to park your RV and stay a while! Situated on the beautiful Pacific coast, Ensenada is one of Mexico's most active ports for vacation cruise lines and visiting pleasure boats.

The drive to Ensenada from San Diego takes about 90 minutes, and is extremely scenic and pleasant. The Transpeninsular toll highway running from Tijuana directly into Ensenada is extremely well maintained and safe. Many parts of the highway wind through the coastal hills hundreds of feet above the Pacific ocean making for breathtaking views.

Once you arrive in Ensenada, you will find a multitude of interesting shops, fine restaurants, and charming hotels. There are also many great ocean related activities that can be experienced for very reasonable rates (If not for free) including whale watching tours, sport fishing, surfing, scuba diving, sea kayaking, horse back rides on the beach, and more. Close to town there are also a number of excellent golf courses and fine vineyards which offer tours.
